History and Background

Brush Country Co-op was founded four decades ago.  The initial meeting of the board of managers was held on July 23, 1974 in the Mathis ISD Board Room.  The original co-op member districts included Pawnee, Pettus, Tilden, Three Rivers, George West to the north, Mathis, Odem, Sinton, Skidmore, Taft in the central area of the co-op, and Agua Dulce, Banquete, Orange Grove to the south.  (Sinton, Taft and Odem have since formed the San Patricio Special Education Co-op and Tilden joined Pleasanton's Atascosa-McMullen Co-op.)

The superintendents of the participating school districts act as the board members, and Orange Grove ISD acts as the fiscal agent for the co-op.  The board meets on the first Wednesday of each month in the Orange Grove ISD Administration building board room.

Here are some Brush Country staff members have been with the co-op from the beginning but retired.   Wanda Morrow, Pawnee diagnostician; Sibbie Burroughs, Agua Dulce diagnostician; and Ethel Murphy, Director Brush Country Co-op.  We applaud their loyalty!!!

Now take a look back at some days gone by!
