 Classroom Visits

Congratulations!!!!

George West High School's Life Skills class was recognized as a Promising Practices class in 2003 and have been recognized again in 2006. Their efforts in the community based VAC-VAT program brought the area in the spotlight.  Many area schools have been to visit and see this program in action.

The following photos show the students at work.

Albert, a senior, has a part time job at Handi-Stop. He follows his written schedule posted in the kitchen.

Albert and Jon are cleaning up at the feed store. Notice the shovel is used, not a broom!

Jon and Albert are stocking groceries at Super S. The students are under the direct supervision of the store employees.

Ana is detailing a car; she got to work on cars just like she wanted.

Delia, a senior,  is working part time VAC at Best Western.  She was asked to work, and was paid, while finishing her CBVE last year.

Laura is being prompted to fold laundry by Frankie using his Vanguard at the nursing home.

Jon, a senior, has a part time VAC job at Texas Industrial Engine.  He drives that red cart to the dump.  He has his driver's license.

Pat is checking out a shopper at Super S. She is under the direct supervision of the employees of the grocery store.

Laura is assisted by Pat and Frankie using environmental control, in shredding paper at the court house.

Robert is part time VAC doing odd jobs at Leo's Mechanic Shop.  Robert's resource teacher is his VAC supervisor.

Delia, desired to be in the CNA program at the Nursing Home.  She later changed her mind but at least she got to try.

Frankie delivers items in the Court House and for the High School.  Frankie has increased his time in the community to two periods.
